A break in the stone wall surrounding the meadow provides a portal into woodland beyond. I follow a path down to the brook which is framed by ancient stone and trees, telling a story of how this land has formed. Here, another mother tree insists that I stop walking and feel the emotion rising in me. She is so tall that I have to bend my head back as far as it will go to gaze into her canopy and infinity beyond. Back inside, I gaze out to the woodland entrance, and just then, morning light shows me another kind of portal, of twisted limbs forming a perfect circle, like a porthole to another world. The light shifts, and it’s gone.
